Hosta are ubiquitous in landscaping; hardy and happy in shade, they are seemingly plopped in an otherwise difficult corner of nearly every yard here in the north. I personally love them, though I can understand how familiarity could breed contempt.
While the foliage is the main star of the show, hosta flowers are surprisingly delicate, and a delight to themselves. However, I think my very favorite is when the flowers are still in bud, purple trumpets not yet unfurled.
