Read this one awhile ago, but reposting my review here that I originally wrote on IG:
Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams 📚
I had mixed feelings about this book. It’s quite readable, and I am more than willing to believe the accounts of the careless-to-malevolent behavior by Zuckerberg, Sandberg, etc depicted in its pages. What I find far less credible is SWW’s self-depiction; somehow we are meant to believe that she is simultaneously the only major Facebook employee who is worldly wise (Her coworkers don’t know how to interact with world leaders, or how to find countries on a map!) yet also a wide-eyed naïf who has no idea that Facebook could or would ever be anything less than a utopian force for good in the world (apparently she didn’t watch The Social Network before joining the company). Overall, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth about everyone involved, the author very much included. ⭐️⭐️1/2 (2.5 stars out of 5)
